History

AWEPA's involvement in the peace building, reconciliation and democratisation process in Mozambique dates back to the beginning of the 1990s. Cooperative programmes were then initiated with NGOs and Trade Unions in Mozambique. Since then, these programmes have come to include the National Assembly, Political Parties, the Local Government and the media.

Over the years the focus on the various programme areas has shifted, depending on the most urgent needs in Mozambique at the time. Recently, more attention has been given to the Local Government and Political Party programmes, as both the decentralization process and the improved relations between political parties has had a critical impact on the development of the Mozambican democratic society.

As a result of the growing demand of our partners, HIV, AIDS and gender equality have become equally prominant elements of the AWEPA programme over the past few years. Read more...
