Section Action on Zimbabwe Print
The Association of European Parliamentarians for Africa deplores the failure of the electoral process in Zimbabwe, whereby heightened violence and insecurity has forced the withdrawal of the MDC candidate in the run-off presidential election of June 27.

There is a strong sentiment among the membership of AWEPA that the situation in Zimbabwe should be approached from the spirit of the New Partnership for Africa's Development, in which it is recognized that Africa's problems require African solutions.

With this in mind, we call upon our partners in the Southern African Development Community Parliamentary Forum and in the Pan-African Parliament, two African parliamentary bodies in which Zimbabwe has membership, to consider the options available for addressing the unacceptable situation and advising the international community of regional and continental preferences for a future course of action.

AWEPA recognizes the urgency of the situation and is prepared to continue assisting in the coordination of European parliamentary solidarity actions, as has been the case throughout the prolonged electoral process in Zimbabwe.
