AWEPA’s Policy Bodies Meet |

On Tuesday 26th August, a Strategic Round Table was conducted with Prof. Albert Tevoedjre representing the AWEPA Eminent Advisory Board, members of the AWEPA Executive Committee and directorate. Some of AWEPA's main partners were represented by Hon. Abdirahin Haithar Abdi, Speaker of the East Africa Legislative Assembly, Mrs. Lyn Chiwandamira representing the Pan African Parliament and Prof. Ben Turok representing NEPAD Parliamentary Contact Group.
The meeting addressed strategic planning for AWEPA's activities and the needs Africa currently has for AWEPA's work. Another issue addressed was how to better institutionalise AWEPA's relations with African Partners.
The AWEPA Council and Executive Committee also met during the last week of August. In addition to a review of AWEPA's activities and planning, the Council discussed important trends in Africa. Hon. Brendan Howlin, Vice President and Deputy Speaker of Ireland, introduced the activities of the AWEPA Sections with regard to the situation in Zimbabwe and guest speakers Prof. Ben Turok of South Africa and Mr. Tony Worthington of the UK promoted a discussion on trends in democratic development in Africa. The Heads of Section also convened to address the role Sections play in AWEPA activities. There was a fruitful and open forum of shared experiences.
