Concern About Eastern Congo Print
With increasing concern, AWEPA is following the tragic developments in Eastern Congo.

The democratic structures that were put in place with much effort after the elections are being destabilised. Human rights are being violated with rape, violence and terror happening daily upon the unfortunate East Congolese people. These inhuman acts have caused thousands of refugees to pour into North Kivu which brings with it great health problems for the whole region.

Several attempts have been made for support and intervention, among them sending a European intervention force aiming to restore peace and protect citizens. AWEPA is asking its Sections to put the situation in Eastern Congo on its agenda and to inform us at Head Quarters about its position via my assistant Marion Verweij at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it This information will be used for a discussion in the Executive Committee in early February.

Kind regards,

Dr. Jan Nico Scholten
President of AWEPA
