Putting Africa at Centre of Climate Agenda Print
Key issues of climate change and the delivery of effective aid in a period of financial crisis were examined at the Eighth Annual Conference of the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank (PNoWB), hosted by the French National Assembly and the French Government, in Paris from 20 to 22 November.

The conference, which involved 150 Members of Parliament and development leaders from across the world, was organised by PNoWB, the French National Assembly and the World Bank Group, in close co-operation with AWEPA (Association of European Parliamentarians with Africa), during the period of the European Union Presidency of France.

A joint AWEPA/PNoWB plenary session dealt with the subject of climate adaptation as being critical to sustaining and furthering development goals.

"This year we launched the African-European Parliamentary Action Plan on Climate Change," comments Pär Granstedt. "This calls for specific parliamentary action in the areas of appropiate legislation, policy reform and budgetary re-allocations to counter the damaging effects of climate change in Africa, which are now clearly apparent."
