This workshop will follow-up on the seminar on Climate Change, Poverty Reduction and Food Security, which took place in Nairobi in August 2008. The overall objective of the workshop is to enhance the role of Parliaments and Parliamentarians in mitigating the impact of Climate Change and creating an enabling environment for Private Sector Development. Over 60 people are expected to attend.
The workshop is expected to produce the following outputs:

A Draft National Parliamentary Action Plan on Climate Change and Private Sector Development;

An agreed plan for a continued Parliamentary Dialogue on Climate Change and Development leading up to the Copenhagen Climate Summit and beyond;

Enhanced Parliamentary knowledge of Private Sector concerns and avenues to facilitate longer term and mutually beneficial relations;

Improved awareness among Parliamentarians on the effects of Climate Change and its conventions and protocols;
-
Progress on passing eco-innovative adaptation policies and relevant environmental legislation.
Objectives

To introduce Parliamentarians to the Convention on Climate Change and its Protocol;

To raise awareness among Parliamentarians about the effects of Climate Change and identify areas of Parliamentary intervention and action;

To establish a lasting framework for the Private Sector and Parliamentarians on Climate Change and Private Sector Development;

To promote parliamentary action towards a more coordinated strategy to advance sustainable development and limit the adverse effects of Climate Change;
-
Enhance the role of parliamentarians in improving the business and investment environment in Uganda as part of poverty reduction strategies and sustainable development.
