The 18th of July is Mandela Day. It is not only the birthday of a great man and politician, but this day has also become a symbol of peace, conciliation, negotiation, and pride to belong to a country and to a people.

President Mandela shared the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1993 with his political rival of the time, Frederik de Klerk, opening the door to democracy and peace in South Africa.

As a politician that sacrificed his own liberty for others’ rights and liberties, Mandela remains an important and active figure who continues to fight for unity today. In his address at the World Cup, Mr. Mandela said: “The World Cup will help unify people. If there is one thing on this planet that has power to bind people together, it is soccer.”

Happy birthday, Nelson Mandela, and many happy returns!
