Head of Section- Hon. Jan Roegiers Head of Flanders AWEPA Section 
The new AWEPA section in the Flanders Parliament was established in 2010 and headed by Hon. Jan Roegiers.Hon. Jan Roegiers is Head of the Flanders AWEPA Section. He is a Member of the SPA party, and represents them in the areas of Foreign Affairs, European issues, Development Cooperation, Mobility and Public Works. He is also a Member of the Committee of the Regions, Benelux Parliament.

World Africa Day Flanders Section Event, 25 May 2011
After the federal elections in June 2010 the Flanders AWEPA Section organized their first official opening event on 25 May 2011 on World Africa Day in the Parliament for all the Flemish MPs en AWEPA members.
President of the Flemish Parliament Hon. Jan Peumans opened the event followed by a speech delivered by Minister of State and AWEPA President Ms. Miet Smet, who spoke about the mission and programs of AWEPA. She emphasized the importance of capacity building for strengthening newly elected African parliamentarians in their overight role of government.
Special guest Prof. Dr. Luc Huyse from the Catholic University Leuven delivered a keynote speech on democracy in Africa. With a background as a sociologist, an expert on sub-Saharan Africa and transitional justice, he provided his insights, impressions and discussed the challenges facing new democracies.
MPs discussed how to jointly overcome the challenges facing African parliaments and how AWEPA can be of support.
Resolution on war rape and on FGM
The Flemish Parliament and AWEPA Section are in the process of preparing two resolutions, one on on war rape in Eastern Congo and the Great Lakes region, and another on Female Genital Mutilation.
