Head of Section - Hon. Ingrida Circene 
The AWEPA Head of Sections for Latvia is chaired by Hon. Ingrida Circene, former Health Minister and currently a Latvian MP and member of the "New Era" party. She is formally trained as a doctor and has extensive experience regarding health and gender equality issues. The Lativian AWEPA Section has 30 Members.
Activities
Ms. Ingrida Circene, head of the AWEPA Latvia Section and member of the AWEPA Governing Council, met the President of African People in Latvia (Biedrība Afrolativiskā asociācija) Mr. Alain Zodeougan and his staff regarding the Africa Days 2010 in Riga in May 2010.
In the same period Ms. Circene also met H.E. Osama Elmagdoub who is the Ambassador of Egypt to the Republic of Latvia as well as H.E. Mr. Abdelkader Khemri who is the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Algeria to the Republic of Latvia.
Africa Day in Latvia
On 20 May 2011, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted an international discussion forum – African Platform. Such a discussion forum was held in Latvia for the first time, and it took place in conjunction with Africa Day, which is observed on 25 May. Read more...
Latvian Parliament Celebrates World AIDS Day, 1 December 2009
In the Latvian Parliament, Saeima Human Rights and Public Affairs Committee had a meeting on HIV/AIDS related issue. Members of the committee met representatives from Latvia's Association for Family Planning and Sexual Health 'Papardes zieds' ('Fern Flower') to disscuss family planning, reproductive health and HIV/AIDS prevention.
