AWEPA’s European Membership and Sections form an integral part of its work and mission. AWEPA boasts a broad network of members made up of current and former European parliamentarians from the parliaments of almost all EU Member States plus the European Parliament, Norway and Switzerland. The members constitute, where appropriate, a Section within their respective parliaments.
The main objective of AWEPA’s European Sections is to keep Africa high on the political agenda in Europe and facilitate African-European parliamentary dialogue.
By promoting the prioritisation of African issues on the political agendas of parliaments in Europe, AWEPA can contribute to more favourable and more coherent trade, aid, investment and agricultural policies towards Africa. AWEPA believes that these advocacy efforts can have a powerful impact on structural poverty reduction.
Members of Sections are also involved in AWEPA’s capacity-building activities in African parliaments, as well as supporting parliamentary exchange visits to Europe to exchange expertise and strengthen African-European dialogue.
