Amsterdam, the Netherlands – AWEPA severely regrets to announce the premature passing of Ms. Barbara Prammer, President of the Austrian Parliament.

Ms. Prammer, who only turned 60 at the beginning of this year, was a strong supporter of AWEPA and a champion of the AWEPA Austrian Section via the NorthSouth Dialogue of Parliaments, a programme which was initiated during her time as a second Speaker of the Austrian Parliament and was established under her presidency, in 2006.

In 2006, Ms. Prammer became head of the AWEPA Austrian Section which she served with great enthusiasm until 2011 when she became honorary chairperson of the Section. Development policy issues, the strengthening of parliamentary cooperation and the support of our partner parliament in Mozambique were of major concern to her. Whenever possible, she received our cooperation partners during their visits to Austria and honored us by giving opening speeches at all our main events in the Austrian Parliament.

We wish to express our gratitude to Ms. Prammer for her support to AWEPA. Our thoughts and condolences are with her family, the Austrian Parliament and the members of the AWEPA Austrian Section.
