Vienna, Austria – In July and August 2014, the Austrian AWEPA Section has increasingly been dealing with the post-2015 development agenda. Among other activities, the Section organised an event in May on the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation and Austria’s contribution to the post-2015 agenda. During discussions, two crucial areas were pointed out as cornerstones for the implementation of the agenda, namely the rule of law and good governance. In addition, participants were made aware of the crucial role played byparliaments in overcoming these universal challenges as well as the particular leverage that parliamentarians can exercise: being aware of the needs of their constituencies.

In a subsequent campaign on the post-2015 development agenda, the Austrian AWEPA Section wrote letters to key EU and Austrian bodies and persons, demanding greater support in ensuring that local, national and regional parliaments are incorporated as strong actors in the definition, implementation and monitoring of the post-2015 development agenda.

All AWEPA Sections and Members in the parliaments of Europe are invited to join the Austrian actions.
