Madrid, Spain – On 16 September 2015, the Spanish AWEPA Section released a statement urging the European Union to adopt a rapid and united response to the refugee crisis in Europe.
Signed by Hon. Josep Maldonado, Senator and Head of the Spanish AWEPA Section, the statement addresses European politicians in general, but more specifically EU member states, in light of “the terrible situation of thousands of refugees from Syria and Africa”.
The Spanish AWEPA Section calls for Europe to come together in response to this situation which “horrifies the vast majority of European citizens” and “affects women, men and children who, after having been forced to flee the tragedy they experienced in their own country, are now living once more in a state of human indignity, coming up against physical barriers in their long journey or suffering shameful conditions in overcrowded refugee camps, with no answer to their plea for a decent future.”
