Amsterdam, the Netherlands – In the context of AWEPA’s Sida-funded Millennium Development Goals (MDG) Programme, the Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and AWEPA held a Strategic Planning Meeting at AWEPA’s Headquarters in Amsterdam, on 29 June 2015.
The delegate from ECOWAS Parliament, Dr. Kabeer Garba, Clerk to the Bureau and Officer in charge of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation and Relations with Development Partners met with Dr. Jeff Balch, AWEPA Director, Research and Evaluation, Mr. Loïc Whitmore, AWEPA Programme Manager and Ms. Ingrid Maria Johansen, AWEPA Project Officer.
2015 represents the last year of the MDGs and of AWEPA’s MDG Programme. The Strategic Planning Meeting therefore served not only to plan activities for the rest of the year and outline plans for a final evaluation of the 2011-2015 programme, but also to discuss future strategic objectives of cooperation for 2016-2020, as we transition towards the new framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The meeting reviewed the cooperation (successes, challenges and learning for next phase) between the ECOWAS Parliament and AWEPA, as well as laid the foundation for a renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding between AWEPA and the ECOWAS Parliament. Dr. Garba thanked AWEPA for its ongoing support on behalf of the Secretary General of the ECOWAS-Parliament.
