Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – In his role as an elected Board Member of the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (PNOWB), Hon. Egidijus Vareikis, Vice-President of AWEPA and Head of its Lithuanian Section, participated in a field visit to Tanzania together with 17 other Members of Parliament (MPs) from three continents: Europe, North America and Africa. The aim of the four-day parliamentary field visit was for MPs to observe and gain a more thorough understanding of the projects supported by the the World Bank Group (WBG) and the IMF at the country level.
Among the different projects, MPs observed the reconstruction of the transport network of Dar es Salaam and visited a recently established beverage company. Parliamentarians also visited the headquarters of a Tanzanian organisation working in the field of community-based conditional cash transfer. Participants also met with the Central Bank, the donor community, and main civil society organizations in Tanzania.
The PNOWB is directed by a twelve-member Board elected by their peers. In 2013, Hon. Vareikis was elected to the Board as one of its five European Board Members.
