Irish AWEPA Section participates in a number of positive initiatives

Dublin, Ireland – The Irish AWEPA Section has been really active this autumn. Among others, AWEPA members helped Irish Civil Society to launch “The World’s Best News” at the gates of the Irish Parliament, a free newspaper containing stories of real and positive change in developing countries. This augured well for the announcement of the Irish Budget 2015, which saw a stabilisation of Irish ODA spending following six years of cuts during the country’s financial crisis.

The Irish AWEPA Section continued to promote financial fairness and transparency by taking part in two events on Global Debt and Global Tax Justice, which attracted its highest attendance of any meetings in the Irish parliament this year.

In December, the section’s activities will culminate in two Irish members, Anthony Lawlor TD and Sean Crowe TD, travelling to Tanzania to take part in the second engagement of the Irish-Tanzanian Joint Monitoring Team, dedicated to providing detailed parliamentary scrutiny of aid effectiveness and development resources between Europe and Tanzania.
