Brussels, Belgium – AWEPA’s latest publication Démocratie et Diplomatie Parlementaire en Afrique centrale 15 de coopération au Cœur de l’Afrique (Parliamentary Democracy and Diplomacy – 15 years of Cooperation at the Heart of Africa – available only in French) was officially launched on 13 December 2013, with the President of AWEPA presenting the book to Mr. Luc de Lobel, the special representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Written by Mr. Luc Dhoore and Ms. Julie Standaert in an autobiographical narrative, the publication takes the reader to central Africa, back in the mid-90s. As it was during this time and in many parts of the continent, young central African legislative institutions called on international parliamentary solidarity to develop into mature parliaments; it was an ultimate goal to achieve a reasonable amount of oversight, coupled with investigative and law-making powers. To supplement the lack of information on this historic process, the publication illustrates the intense beginning and current continuation of the partnership between AWEPA and the Parliaments of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Republic of Congo and the Network of Central African Women Parliamentarians (RFPAC).
AWEPA would like to express its appreciation to the Belgian Senate for hosting the meeting and lunch for this meeting.
