15-18 December 2015

Dakar, Senegal – The Pan-African Parliament (PAP), with the support of the Association of European Parliamentarians with Africa (AWEPA), organised a Stakeholder and Experts Consultation meeting on the Assessment of the Implications of the PAP revised protocol and the PAP Monitoring and Evaluation System in Dakar, Senegal, on 15-18 December 2015.

AWEPA facilitated the attendance of members and staff of  the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament and Commission, Southern African Development Community Parliamentary Forum (SADC PF) and  the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

Background Info

The PAP’s revised Protocol was adopted by the African Union (AU) Summit of January 2014. The Revised Protocol will, after ratification by Member States, replace the maiden Protocol that came into force in December 2003 and will transform the PAP into a parliamentary organ of the AU with legislative responsibilities. This transformation will have widespread and serious implications on the composition, functions and powers of the PAP.
