Parliamentary Seminar on the integration of children and youth in East African societies

Nairobi, Kenya. In April 2012, AWEPA and the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) hosted the seminar “Towards Parliamentary Action for Integration of Children and Youth in East African Societies”, which facilitated an open discussion about the current state of youth and children-related policies in the region as far as education and employment are concerned, and brought about a series of recommendations to enhance the role of regional parliaments in youth empowerment. The two-day seminar was attended by parliamentarians from EALA and from other regional parliaments. Commitments were made to monitor the implementation of the laws, charters and declarations related to the well-being of youth as well as to promote a structured dialogue and a consultation process with East African institutions to ensure the coherence of youth-related policies.
