Stellenbosch, South Africa – AWEPA is proud to announce that Dr. Jeffrey Balch has been appointed an Honorary Professor by Stellenbosch University in South Africa.
Prof. Balch has been associated with AWEPA for 28 years, and is currently Director for Research and Evaluation.
On the occasion of Prof. Balch’s Knighthood as Officer in the Netherlands Order of Oranje-Nassau in 2012, the current Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands and AWEPA member, Hon. Bert Koenders, praised his contribution to the struggle against apartheid and later to the strengthening of democracy in Africa. The Mayor of Amsterdam referred to his dedicated support for orphans and other children made vulnerable by HIV and AIDS in Africa.
Stellenbosch University has appointed Prof. Balch in recognition of his proven expertise and eminence in his field of work. While continuing his work in AWEPA, Prof. Balch will also be involved in the academic programmes of the Africa Centre for HIV/AIDS Management.
The appointment decision was taken on the recommendation of the Africa Centre, which strives to play a creative and active role in nourishing social, political and economic transformation. This institution provides academic programmes, undertakes research and promotes community mobilisation, with special reference to the management of HIV and AIDS in the workplace.
Prof. Balch joins a committed staff at the Africa Centre with a true passion for being pro-active about confronting HIV and AIDS, while bringing results and hope to a continent that is still severely affected by the disease.
