National Seminar of CPDM to Prepare members for Provincial and General Elections, Chimoio, Mozambique, 28-29 May 2009

On 28-29 May a National Seminar for small parties (members of CPDM), took place in Chimoio, Central region of Mozambique. Participants came from six Provinces of the country where most of the CPDM parties have a strong representation (Maputo, Tete, Manica and Sofala, Zambezia and Nampula). The objective of this seminar was to refresh the knowledge of the 61 participants on the electoral legislation and to draw strategies for the electoral campaign.

The seminar was facilitated by experts on electoral legislation, as well as by a senior consultant specialised in democracy and electoral campaigning. During the introduction, the focus was on a reflection on the local government elections that took place in November 2008, in which the small parties didn’t book good results.

At the end of the seminar the participants committed themselves to share the knowledge acquired at the seminar with the other members at provinces and in communities. They committed themselves to use the lessons learned in the upcoming electoral campaign for the General and Provincial elections in order to achieve a better performance.
