Renamo Regional Seminar for Reflection on the Municipal Elections 2008 and Drawing Strategies for the Provincial and General Elections 2009, Central Region of Mozambique, April 2009

In April 2009, a Regional seminar for the Renamo party will take place in the Central Region of Mozambique, during which issues regarding the strengthening of party performance will be discussed.

The objective of this seminar is to reflect on the last local government elections which took place in 2008, and to draw strategies for the upcoming provincial and general elections planned for the second half of this year.

Approximately 50 party members from the four Central provinces (Zambézia, Tete, Manica and Sofala) will attend the seminar.

Renamo's biggest concern is the results of the local government elections, in which the party lost the five Municipalities that they had won in the previous elections of 2003. No Renamo member holds the position of Mayor nor does Renamo have a majority in any Municipal Assembly.  Therefore the party will analyse the reasons for this failure and discuss new strategies to gain the majority in the coming provincial Assemblies as well as in the National Assembly.
