Kinshasa, DRC – AWEPA’s President, Minister of State Ms. Miet Smet, made a work visit to DRC from 21 to 24 March 2016. During her consultation mission, Ms. Smet met with the Presidents of both Chambers of the DRC Parliament (Hon. Leon Kengo Wa Dondo, President of the Senate, and Hon. Aubin Minaku Ndjalandjoko, President of the National Assembly).
Ms. Smet and the Presidents discussed the partnership between AWEPA and the Parliament of DRC. They engaged in fruitful conversation on the renewal of AWEPA’s Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and the strengthening of the programme with the DRC Parliament. In particular, they addressed capacity building for women and young MPs as well as conflict prevention in DRC and the Great Lakes Region.
The President of AWEPA also had the opportunity to discuss the general situation in DRC with the Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Homeland Affairs, Mr. Evariste Boshab, and members of the socio-economic sector.
Also as part of her work visit, Ms. Smet visited the headquarters of the Parliamentary Forum of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (PF-ICGLR). She held discussions with Hon. Prosper Higiro, Secretary General of PF-ICGLR, and his team on the partnership between the two organisations in the framework of the new MoU agreed in Luanda in December 2015.
