AWEPA Newsletter

Moshi, Tanzania – AWEPA organised capacity enhancement training for general staff of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) on 28 July-1 August 2016 in Moshi, Tanzania.

The training focused change management, and brought together 26 members of staff from EALA. The topics covered were capacity development for leadership and change management in East African Parliaments; approaches to change management; and how to match individuals and competencies.

AWEPA organised this training in the framework of its programme entitled “Taking up the Challenges and Opportunities of the Sustainable Development Goals”, which partners with regional parliaments in Africa to enhance their capacity, networks and support in order to help them to deliver on their mandate and realise their strategic objectives.

As part of this programme, funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), AWEPA provides support to EALA, the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), the Southern African Development Community Parliamentary Forum (SADC-PF) , the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the Parliament of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC).

Other areas of focus of programme are to ensure that regional parliaments play a prominent role in international fora, remain connected and receive adequate support.
