#YouthDay2015: Engaging young people for development and peace

AWEPA Newsletter

Amsterdam, Netherlands – AWEPA celebrates International Youth Day, held on 12 August each year to highlight youth issues and emphasise the power of young people worldwide.

The theme of International Youth Day 2015 is “Youth Civic Engagement”. The 2015 campaign aims at promoting civic engagement and participation of youth in politics and public life, so that young people can bring a full contribution to society, development and peace.

AWEPA firmly believes that the engagement and participation of young people is essential to achieving sustainable human development. As part of its programme in Benin, AWEPA works to empower young people to make their voices heard through political training and exchanges.

“Young people should be at the forefront of global change and innovation. Empowered, they can be key agents for development and peace. If, however, they are left on society’s margins, all of us will be impoverished. Let us ensure that all young people have every opportunity to participate fully in the lives of their societies.” Kofi Annan, Former UN Secretary General
